The New York Jets are set to begin a week of joint practices with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday, and they’ll be doing so without Sauce Gardner and Carl Lawson. Gardner and Lawson are absent from Wednesday’s practice due to injuries, though, neither player is seemingly dealing with anything serious.

The positive news is that Robert Saleh indicated that neither Gardner nor Lawson have injuries that concern the team long-term. That being said, Lawson has now missed multiple practices in a row with a back ailment.

Meanwhile, Gardner is unable to practice because of a quad injury. Quad and hamstring injuries can be tricky, so the Jets are being cautious with their All-Pro cornerback ahead of his second year in the NFL.

With Gardner and Lawson unable to practice, some of the young edge rushers and cornerbacks that are competing for expanded roles and roster spots will now get more reps. While Saleh says Gardner and Lawson’s absences are precautionary, both situations are something to monitor entering the first week of the preseason.
