Tuesday the Seattle Seahawks reported for training camp, with many fans eagerly awaiting news on the status of the team’s top overall pick from the 2021 NFL Draft this past spring. It did not take long for those fans, many who have become wary of a top overall draft pick missing time during training camp, to have their fears confirmed.

Wednesday the Seahawks placed second round pick D’Wayne Eskridge and third year running back Travis Homer on the Physically Unable to Perform list. In addition, the Hawks placed undrafted rookie free agent Pier-Olivier Lestage on the Nonfootball Injury list.

Which list a player is placed on is dependent on the timing of when the injury was sustained. Because Lestage was placed on the NFI list, it means the injury was one that existed at the time he took his initial physical with the team in the spring. In contrast, Eskridge going on to the PUP list indicates that he took part in some portion of the team’s work this summer, making him ineligible to go on the NFI list.

The other name many had feared would be on the list, 2018 first round pick Rashaad Penny, is absent, which is hopefully good news for his recovery from whatever follow up procedure he had on his surgically repaired knee this offseason.
