New York Jets make six trades on their way to selecting seven players in the 2024 NFL draft

It was a wild draft weekend for the New York Jets, featuring six total trades with at least one on all three days. In the end, general manager Joe Douglas concluded his fifth draft in New York with a seven-player draft class.

New York wrapped up its draft class by selecting Mr. Irrelevant with the 257th and final pick of the draft: Alabama defensive back Jaylen Key. With the draft officially in the books, here is a look at the Jets’ final 2024 draft class:

It should be noted that the Jets also acquired the Detroit Lions’ 2025 third-round pick in exchange for a fourth-round pick in this year’s draft.

Overall, the most notable theme of this draft class is its heavy emphasis on offense. In fact, the Jets went offense-heavy to a historical degree. This marks the first time in franchise history that the Jets selected offensive players with each of their first five picks in a draft class.

There were four previous drafts in which the Jets began with four consecutive offensive picks – 2021, 1983, 1969, and 1962 – but five had never been done. The unprecedented emphasis on offense is completely justified for a team that ranked 32nd in offensive DVOA one year ago.

For Jets fans, it’s an extremely welcome sight to see the team taking its offensive woes seriously. Through their free agent signings, trades, and draft picks, Joe Douglas and company have done everything possible to give Aaron Rodgers his best chance to succeed in 2024.
