No surgery for Giants’ starting left guard

A report Saturday from NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirms, as New York Giants coach Joe Judge indicated Friday, that the Giants have avoided the “worst-case scenario.”

Rapoport tweeted that Lemieux’s knee injury “should keep him just out a couple weeks.” Rapoport also reported that “Following a battery of tests, it was determined no surgery was needed.”

Lemieux was carted off the field late in Thursday’s practice.

A fifth-round pick out of Oregon a season ago, Lemieux played in 12 games with nine starts at left guard. Pro Football Focus was not a fan of Lemieux’s play, with his 32.2 overall grade worst by far on the Giants’ offense. Lemieux, 24, struggled in pass protection. He had a 16.9 PFF grade and a 94.7 pass blocking efficiency score, 113th out of 123 graded guards.

The Giants, though, are expecting improvement and counting on Lemieux to be their left guard.

Veteran Kenny Wiggins has filled in for Lemieux since he was injured. Other options include Zach Fulton, Chad Slade and Kyle Murphy.
