The resurrection of the Pittsburgh Steelers run game depends on a few factors. One of the biggest will be rookie running back Najee Harris. Along with a complete overhaul of the offensive line, Harris is the team’s first-round pick in 2020 and as the consensus feature back of the draft will be the workhorse of the Steelers run game.

This is a role Harris doesn’t seem a bit concerned with. According to Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner, Harris is a hard worker and never hesitates to take extra reps after practice. Faulkner said one time he finally had to tell Harris to go home.

If Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin holds true to form, Harris is going to need that conditioning. When Tomlin has a lead back, he becomes the bell cow and racks up the snaps and touches.

In Harris’ last two seasons at Alabama, Harris had 530 touches for 3,419 combined yards and 50 total touchdowns. He has proven conditioning is a top priority for him, which had to be a huge draw for a coach like Tomlin who preaches it constantly.
