The Steelers now have two open roster positions which can be filled.

Before the Pittsburgh Steelers head to Canton Ohio for the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night, they have placed cornerback DeMarkus Acy and offensive tackle Anthony Coyle on the Waived/Injured List.

On Tuesday evening, it was reported that DeMarkus Acy had torn his ACL and would miss the 2021 NFL season. The reports were based on Acy’s own post on Twitter.

After going undrafted in the 2020 NFL draft, DeMarkus Acy signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately Acy did not make the squad as he was released in mid August. Acy did spend time on the practice squads of both the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Football Team. Originally signing a Reserve/Future contract in Washington, Acy was released prior to the 2021 NFL draft.

While at Missouri, Acy started in 36 of the 47 games in which he appeared where he registered three interceptions, 23 passes defensed, at 99 tackles.

Offensive tackle Anthony Coyle spent the 2020 NFL season on the Steelers practice squad. Undrafted out of Fordham, Coyle started his NFL career with the Houston Texans in 2018. Coyle also spent time on the practice squads of the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons. Finding his way to the Pittsburgh Steelers via the XFL, Coyle was also mentioned by Coach Tomlin early in training camp as an emergency player used at center whenever the Steelers had nobody else available. It is believed to be a shoulder injury which landed Coyle on the Waived/Injured List.

With the Steelers set to play in Canton tomorrow evening against the Dallas Cowboys, it’s uncertain when they will fill their two roster spots. Unless it is a player who has spent time in training camp with the Steelers and has since been waived, chances are Steelers will not be looking for someone to get game action on Thursday if they even choose to fill the spots prior to the game.
