The former Chargers defensive end had previously visited the Chiefs and Dolphins.

According to a report from NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed former Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Melvin Ingram to a 1-year contract.

This essentially eliminates the possibility that the Kansas City Chiefs could still sign the nine-year NFL veteran to a contract before the season begins. Ingram visited the Chiefs late in March — and visited the Miami Dolphins in late May. During those visits, he was unable to come to terms with either club.

The 32-year-old Ingram was a first-round draft pick (18th overall) for the Chargers in 2012. He became a starter during his fourth season, opening every Chargers game over the next four seasons — and was named to the Pro Bowl in two of them. He played in only 13 games in 2019 — when he received another Pro Bowl nod — and just seven in 2020, after sustaining a knee injury in the opening month of the season.
