With everything to lose and very little to gain, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster went out and played on Sunday night. His team might have lost 42-21 to the Kansas City Chiefs but Smith-Schuster’s performance after what was supposed to be a season-ending shoulder injury epitomizes what it means to be a Steeler.

After the game, Smith-Schuster said he would love to stay with the Steelers and followed it up on Monday with this Instagram post.

Really tough loss last night. This season didn’t go as any of us planned, but we fought hard and I am proud of how the boys competed through adversity and against the odds this season.

Thank you to the fans and the city for showing me so much love! After the injury, all the love you showered on me kept me going through rehab and through some dark days having to be away from the game and my teammates. All of the fans and my brothers gave me the strength to stay strong during my rehab and stay positive to hopefully come back early if we made a playoff push, thankfully I was able to do that. The love and support goes so much further than anyone can imagine. When you are alone away from everybody during the season, little things like fans passing good vibes to me at the gas station and when I am out to eat really make a difference.

I’ve said it before and have the same stance: I’d love to be Pittsburgh for life. I hope we can make that happen this offseason and I want to be a part of this franchise’s return to glory. It’s not a matter of if, but when, and I hope I’m wearing the black and gold, celebrating a Super Bowl with these fans, when it happens. Love you guys.

Smith-Schuster is one of more than a dozen unrestricted free agents the Steelers need to sort out. Personally, I’d love for Smith-Schuster to come back given that both James Washington and Ray-Ray McCloud could be leaving.

What do you think? Should the Steelers re-sign Smith-Schuster in the offseason? Let us know in the comments below.
