How Steve Bisciotti Became The Ravens Owner

During the Spring of 2015, I had this idea for a series of articles, and admittedly, it was a total lift from ESPN’s outstanding series of documentaries, 30 for 30. As the Ravens prepared for what would be their 20th season in Baltimore, I thought it would be a good idea to ask our writers at RSR, and some journalists who have covered the Ravens, to tell a memorable story from their experiences with the team. We called the series 20 for 20 and I encourage you to check it out. While preparing the series, I thought to reach out to Steve Bisciotti.

I wondered if he would be interested in telling the story of how he acquired the team – a story that I didn’t believe was properly told up to that point. To my delight, Steve agreed to meet with me in his office at The Castle for the interview on June 16, 2015.

Up to this point, I’ve only presented the transcribed version of the interview. Recently when he broke his silence with the media it inspired me to revisit the audio version. What you’ll hear from Steve is honesty, intelligence and thoughtfulness as he addresses things such as how he became owner, the difference between winning Super Bowl 35 and 47, his future outlook for himself and the team, plus a few other interesting things.

By the time you reach the end of this interview, I’m sure you’ll see Steve for the visionary he is and you’ll realize that a lot can change in nearly 7 years. I hope you enjoy this discussion, the first time it has ever been made publicly available.
