Immortality delayed, but not denied

It’s Hall of Fame weekend in the National Football League, and that means that a former member of the Minnesota Vikings is finally going to get his moment in the spotlight.

Former Vikings guard Steve Hutchinson will be a part of the ceremony taking place tonight in Canton as the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2020 will get their recognition. There was no enshrinement ceremony last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the league will be enshrining two classes this weekend. The Class of 2021 will get its ceremony on Sunday.

Hutchinson was selected for induction into the Hall of Fame on his third try. He started his career with the Seattle Seahawks, who he played for from 2001 to 2005, and then came to Minnesota after signing the infamous “poison pill” contract before the 2006 season. He spent six seasons with the Vikings, departing after the 2011 season, and played one year for the Tennessee Titans before retiring for good.

In his career, Hutchinson made seven consecutive Pro Bowls from 2003 to 2009, and was a five-time First-Team All-Pro (he was also named to the All-Pro Second Team twice). He was also a member of the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s.

Congratulations to Steve Hutchinson on his official enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame! If you want to watch tonight’s ceremonies, the coverage kicks off at 5:30 PM Central time on the NFL Network.
