What does the future hold for Taysom?

With training camp starting to kick off, all eyes of the New Orleans Saints and Who Dat Nation are on who will land the starting position at quarterback post-Drew Brees. While the obvious choice remains Jameis Winston, one could wonder what would become of Taysom Hill if this were to become a reality. What would this do to Hill’s mental state heading into games knowing that he’ll only be a backup to Winston? Would Hill remain in New Orleans after this year ends? Would he look to find a way to leave mid season? Only time will tell.

Many thought that Taysom Hill’s interview for the QB position came during the 4 game stretch in which Drew Brees went down with a rib injury last season. During this time, Hill went 3-1 while throwing for over 70% of his passes. Over the course of the season, he also piled up 928 yards of offense. Now while two of those wins came against the Atlanta Falcons and another coming against a depleted Denver Broncos team, Hill did just enough to convince us of the potential he could have under the wise counsel of Sean Payton.

Our own Christopher Dunnells had the chance to ask Taysom about his mindset heading into training camp prior to the start. When asked, Hill expressed that both him and Jameis were extremely supportive of each other through this time of competition. Taysom also explained that he had been told to come in and compete and that’s what he plans on doing. As for everything else, it’ll fall into place the way it’s supposed to.

As the summer moves along, the vision will become more clear as to whether it will be Jameis or Taysom when it’s all said and done. For now, we watch and wait while also remaining optimistic on what the future could hold if either one of them becomes QB. I do often wonder, how long will Taysom be comfortable remaining only a backup while possessing so many gifts that make him stand out above the rest.
