That is some high praise for the rookie coming from the Denver Broncos starting quarterback.

The Denver Broncos backfield is looking like a strength heading into the season. Melvin Gordon II looked strong in the preseason as did rookie second round pick Javonte Williams. Both guys will make starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s life a lot easier as the offense looks to improve from its woeful 2020 campaign.

When asked about Williams’ impact on the offense as a rookie on Wednesday, Bridgewater gave the young player a lofty comparison to New Orleans Saints All-Pro runner Alvin Kamara.

“I get asked about Javonte often and I told someone—I don’t want to make it seem like I’m reaching or anything—but he possesses some of those qualities that you see in Alvin Kamara. He’s a guy [who’s] extremely smart, he catches the ball well out of the backfield, he runs good routes, he has a low center of gravity, he’s strong, he knows how to set up blocks. You see that in a guy like him who’s only a rookie, his ceiling is so high.”

Williams is in the perfect situation as a rookie. There is no doubting Gordon is back looking strong this season as the veteran #1 guy there, so Williams will be able to pair nicely in a two-headed beast type situation. The tread on a running backs lifespan is always significantly increased when they are in a dynamic duo type running game.

While the fantasy football value may not be great, if it helps Denver win a lot more games in 2021 compared to 2020 then who cares. Let non-Broncos fans cry about fantasy production.
