While analysts have been hesitant to place Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry at or near the top of their list of rankings at the position in years past, those days appear to be long gone.

Henry has made the top of several running back rankings this offseason, and the latest to crown him the best at his position in the NFL is Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar.

Farrar placed Henry at No. 1 on his list of the top 11 running backs, and to his credit this is the second-straight season in which he has done so.

Mr. Farrar was certainly ahead of the curve in that regard, as it didn’t take a 2,000-yard season, First-Team All-Pro selection and an AP Offensive Player of the Year award for him to crown Henry like most analysts out there.

The reason for the hesitance to rank Henry at No. 1 during his career comes from a lack of production in the passing game, which has become a more important part of the running back position in today’s NFL.

However, it’s impossible to hold Henry’s lackluster passing-game stats against him when he’s running over grown men and putting up ridiculous numbers on the ground, all the while carrying his team in the process.

While he might not be the most well-rounded running back, Henry is easily the best, most dominant pure runner in the NFL thanks to his rare combination of size, speed, strength and big-play ability.

It’s unthinkable that a running back could have a good chance to win three straight rushing titles and post back-to-back 2,000-yard seasons, but those are certainly realistic goals for the Alabama product in 2021.
