The Tennessee Titans have bolstered their depth on the edge ahead of training camp this afternoon, signing veteran pass rusher John Simon. The team confirmed and announced the news on Sunday.

The Titans also waived outside linebacker Tuzar Skipper.

Simon has played with the Ravens, Colts, Patriots and Texans in his eight year career. He now joins the Titans, who just placed big-ticket free agent signing Bud Dupree on the PUP list. Dupree signed a five year deal with the team this year, worth $85 million. Dupree has been working to rehab his surgically repaired knee since signing with the Titans. He racked up eight sacks in 11 games with the Steelers before tearing his ACL last season, leading into his free agency.

Simon offers some veteran insurance at the position. The Titans also have Harold Landry, Wyatt Ray and draft pick Rashad Weaver at the spot. Simon was taken in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round. Since then, he’s made 30 starts over the last three seasons for the Patriots. He totaled 46 tackles and two sacks last season for the team.

The former Buckeye has carved out a decent depth role for himself in the NFL, and that’s likely to continue with the Titans as Bud Dupree continues to work his way back.
