Blame Mike Tomlin for Steelers | Cody Flavell, All Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ loss to the Arizona Cardinals is one that could go down as one of the worst in the Mike Tomlin era. Three of the Steelers’ four losses this year have seemingly been considered “the worst of the Tomlin era,” and right there lies the problem.

At the time, losing to the Houston Texans seemed to be quite an embarrassment. A rookie quarterback making his fourth NFL start should’ve had the Steelers salivating. Instead, CJ Stroud hung 30 points on the Steelers with 300-plus yards and a couple of touchdowns. We now see that the Texans might just be a good football team as they sit 7-5 with the Steelers.

The Pittsburgh Steelers could lose their third inside linebacker this season after Elandon Roberts left Week 13 with a groin injury and was unable to return. Now, it’s uncertain whether or not the veteran will be able to play on a short week against the New England Patriots. If he doesn’t, the team will turn to another new face to fill his role.

In the midst of losing Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb to season-ending injuries, the Steelers signed veteran Blake Martinez off of the Carolina Panthers practice squad. After arriving in Pittsburgh two weeks ago, he’s been inactive on gamedays as he continues to learn and develop within the offense.

After the ankle injury suffered by Kenny Pickett on Sunday, by Thursday the Pittsburgh Steelers truly don’t have much of a choice but to believe in Mitch Trubisky.

Then again, Trubisky and the Steelers have been in this position before. Last year around this time, in fact.

Pickett is expected to miss “a couple of weeks,” according to an ESPN report, which means he will be unable to play in the Steelers’ next game, Thursday at home against the New England Patriots.
