Steelers news and commentary for Monday, November 27

Welcome to the Terrible Towel Tales, where we’ll highlight some of the latest stories permeating Steelers media for your reading pleasure every Monday through Saturday. In today’s news…

Steelers’ offense enjoys prolific day in wake of OC’s firing | Brooke Pryor, ESPN

With 5:17 remaining in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first game since offensive coordinator Matt Canada’s dismissal, running back Najee Harris took a handoff from quarterback Kenny Pickett and cut to the outside.

With a 13-yard run, Harris carried the Steelers over 400 yards, a threshold they hadn’t seen in 58 regular-season games. Not only did the Steelers break that streak in their 16-10 win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday — they also outgained an opponent (424 yards to the Bengals’ 222) for the first time all season.

George Pickens Didn’t Know Steelers Fired Matt Canada | Noah Strackbein, All Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers made a change at offensive coordinator this week, firing Matt Canada and promoting Eddie Faulkner from running back coach.

The move came as a surprise to everyone in the locker room, and with the decision seemingly coming without much preparation for it, players learned of the news the same way the rest of us did – through social media and the news.

Not George Pickens.

Steelers Offense Already Feels Different for Kenny Pickett

“I think we came together as a unit. Huge shoutout to Coach [Faulkner] and Coach [Sullivan],” Pickett said. “I think those guys did a great job preparing us this week. I think we did a good job coming together and staying together at a time of adversity, coming on the road and getting a really big-time, AFC North win so it feels good.”

It wasn’t perfect, but the Steelers gained 400 yards of offense for the first time in three years and their 421 total yards were the most this team has gained since Week 16 of 2018. They still have some issues to clean up – five penalties and a fumble, namely – but Pickett was happy with the way the Steelers moved the ball consistently and controlled time of possession.
