OC Bobby Slowik turns his back on ground game
With the AFC South lead on the line, and a chance to sweep Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowick chose to throw the ball early and often. Even though the game was never really out of reach for the Texans.
Over the last 2 weeks, running back Devin Singletary has gained 262 yards on 52 carries. Yesterday he was given the ball exactly 6 times and managed to grab a sad 18 yards.
What happened to this:
Back to Back weeks with a Texan as the AFC Offensive Player of the week:
Week 9: C.J. Stroud
Week 10: Devin Singletary

But, have no fear! Dameon Pierce is here! Returning from injury, Pierce should have brought some thunder to Singletary’s lightning. Alas, that was not meant to be either. By the final whistle, Pierce’s return brought just 14 yards on 5 carries.
Sure, the old adage of put the ball in the hands of your playmakers is a thing for a reason. And rookies C.J. Stroud and Tank Dell are making plays. But, you can’t rely on such an unbalanced offensive attack week in and week out.
Now, we can blame the loss on the refs – cause, yeah – or we can talk about missed opportunities by the defense to stop the Glitter Kitties – or we can blame the refs. But, in the end, those things happen in every game, and the team has to overcome them. Having a balanced offense allows for one one area to miss an opportunity here or there while the team still succeeds.
When your quarterback out rushes your 2 starting tailbacks, and he doesn’t break 48 yards, there’s a problem that goes beyond inexplicably horrid officiating and a handful of missed opportunities.
Slowik has put Stroud in position to win plays time and again. Now he needs to prove he can consistently do that with the run game.
