Having two first-round picks gives the Houston Texans options.

The Texans possess the Nos. 2 and 12 overall picks, which means they can find their franchise quarterback with the top selection and plug a significant roster hole with the other. Houston could also use their second Round 1 selection to trade back further into the draft order.

According to Jordan Dajani from CBS Sports, the Texans fit the profile of a team that would be willing to trade back in the first round.

There are rumors the Texans may not be sold on a quarterback at No. 2 overall, and some mocks even have them trading out of that first pick. While I view that possibility as unlikely, the Texans do hold the No. 12 overall pick as well. Teams with multiple first-round selections are more likely to trade in my opinion. That’s especially true for the Texas at No. 12, where another team could move up for a quarterback that has fallen outside of the top 10.

General manager Nick Caserio said the club is also “open to listening” to offers for the No. 2 overall pick. No doubt the Texans are considering similar options with the No. 12 overall pick.

In last year’s draft, Houston was slated to pick at No. 13 overall, but made a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles to take Texas A&M guard Kenyon Green two slots later.
