Texans GM Nick Caserio says Kenyon Green must ‘get ready for next year’

The Houston Texans revealed a disappointing aspect to their offensive line when they placed guard Kenyon Green on injured reserve Tuesday.

Texans general manager Nick Caserio was pleased with the mental fortitude Green displayed since the offseason workouts, but the shoulder injury was too much for the 2022 first-round pick to overcome.

Although the focus is on the 2023 squad and plugging the hole a starting left guard leaves, Caserio has a message for Green as he enters rehabilitation.

“Yeah, I mean the big thing is just get ready for next year,” Caserio told reporters Aug. 30. “So, get ready, get healthy and get ready for the offseason. That’s the reality of the situation, so that’s where the focus is.”

Naturally playing time helps a young player, and Green was able to get experience as a rookie with 14 starts among 15 game day activations.

“Had some good plays, had some bad plays,” said Caserio. “Every young player goes through that, so we are where we are this year, so we look forward to 2024 and to kind of see where he is come February or March, whenever the offseason program starts.”
