The Houston Texans might shock the NFL draft and take an offensive lineman with their first pick if the right one falls in their lap during the second round.

Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan recently worked out privately for the Texans, according to KPRC2 Sports Aaron Wilson. Morgan, an All-Pac-12 left tackle, is expected to be a late first or early second-round pick in next week’s draft.

Morgan started 37 games at left tackle for the Wildcats over three seasons. Last year, Arizona was one of college football’s breakout teams under Jedd Fisch, finishing 10-3 with a win over Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.

According to Pro Football Focus, Morgan allowed eight sacks and 10 QB hits in three years while serving on the blind side. Last season in 785 snaps, he allowed just one sack and two QB hits while posting a career-best 83.5 grade.

Morgan was invited to the Senior Bowl this offseason and looked steady at left tackle. Some scouts believe he’ll transition over to the right side, or perhaps shift inside to guard at the next level.

During the combine, Morgan posted a 5.04 40-time, which ranked just outside the top 10 among offensive linemen participating. The 6-foot-5 tackle also posted a 9-foot-2 broad jump and a 28-inch vertical.

Houston returns both All-Pro left tackle Laremy Tunsil and right tackle Tytus Howard for the upcoming year. Both received contract extensions before the start of last season and are expected to remain on the outside while blocking for Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud.

The left guard position, however, was a turnstile for the AFC South champions following a season-ending shoulder injury to former first-round pick Kenyon Green. Howard, a natural tackle, moved inside to fill the void until suffering a season-ending knee injury in November.

Rookie Juice Scruggs, a natural center, held down the spot for the remainder of the season once he was elevated off the injured reserve.

Morgan, who recently turned 21, is still a young prospect and a ball of clay in the trenches. He’s an experienced starter, which should boost his stock, though he might fall down draft boards given other needs.
