Houston Texans offensive lineman Tytus Howard is out for the season with knee injury

The Houston Texans season has been a remarkable success in many respects. They’ve found their quarterback of the future in C.J. Stroud. Several existing players have flourished under the new coaching staff and the team has already doubled the amount of victories a season ago with six games remaining. Still, there has been one sore spot that has reared its ugly head yet again.

The game of musical chairs continues as another song has gone and another chair is ripped out from under the offensive staff. Veteran right tackle Tytus Howard had been entrenched as the left guard once Kendrick Green went down with his own season ending injury. Kendrick Green had replaced Kenyon Green who is also out for the season. Is anyone beginning to notice a trend here?

Fortunately for the Texans, Juice Scruggs returned from injured reserve on Sunday and was able to fill in for Howard. It is questionable as to whether he did that ably. Of course, he hadn’t played in a game since August, so maybe it was wrong to expect all that much from him in his first game back. Either way, he will be the guy moving forward for a team going on its fourth starting center and not fourth starting left guard since training camp.

It has been that sort of season for the Texans and the left side of their offensive line. When you throw in Laremy Tunsil’s knee troubles you’ll see how many different starting lineups they have had to throw out there. What is most remarkable is that Sunday was the first game since week two where there were obvious deficiencies in pass blocking. Bobby Slowik and the offensive staff will have to piece it together again. What are your thoughts? Can the Texans get by with Juice Scruggs in place of Howard?
