The Houston Texans will have a lot of financial flexibility in 2024. Thanks to low-budget signings in free agency and a plethora of players on rookie deals, the Texans set themselves up to make some big plays this offseason – if they want.

Houston is projected to have $74,837,748 in salary cap space, according to Spotrac. Only the Detroit Lions and the Washington Commanders are expected to have more money.

Now, this could change one way or the other ahead of free agency if/when Houston re-signs or extends any of its players – players like defensive end Jonathan Greenard, kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn and punter Cameron Johnston come to mind as potential targets. The Texans also need cap space to sign its 2024 rookie class.

But regardless of what the Texans do before free agency, Houston could be a big player this offseason. Whether that’s with blockbuster deals or trade. The Texans could become a destination for players as well after how well rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud performed and how the roster player for first-time head coach DeMeco Ryans. Houston also shocked many by winning the AFC South and then winning the wild card game against the Cleveland Browns.

The Texans will want to maintain the momentum they started this year, and offseason moves are the easiest way to do that with so much cap space. Houston has a lot of impending free agents, though – some of whom were major contributors on all sides of the ball.
