C.J. Stroud may have just three games of NFL experience, but he is already fifth in the league with 906 passing yards.

Even for a No. 2 overall pick, landing in the top-5 in passing yards isn’t beginner’s luck; rather Stroud’s presence demonstrates skill.

The former Ohio State signal caller shared with reporters Sept. 27 what has made him successful as the Houston Texans have carved a 1-2 record through the first games of the season.

“Just routine, getting back to your routine,” said Stroud. “It’s not really rocket science. It’s what you make it your own.”

How Stroud has owned his own routine is by turning the page each week from one opponent to the next and not getting anchored in the previous week — good or bad.

Said Stroud: “Everybody kind of has their own recipe for success and me personally, it’s just my routine and turning around every week for that team we’re playing and just working — working hard and being hard on yourself, being critical, being accountable on everybody — including yourself and holding everybody to a standard of what it takes to win and that’s what it takes.”

Stroud’s routine will be tested as Houston hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at NRG Stadium. In addition to taking on a 2-1 squad, franchise legend J.J. Watt will be enshrined into the Texans Ring of Honor at halftime. Whether the highs of delivering for an emotional win for the city of Houston, or failing to live up to expectations for now, Stroud will be confronted with how he gets back into his routine for Week 5.
