The Houston Texans have seemingly moved on from Deshaun Watson, who requested a trade from the organization in late January.

Watson is consistently not participating in team portions of training camp practice, and the club appears to not figure him into their 2021 plans.

What is general manager Nick Caserio waiting on?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who joined “The Wheelhouse with Jake Asman, Cody Stoots, & Brad Kellner” on ESPN 97.5 Houston [KFNC-FM] on Monday, the conditions teams are attaching to the trade with Houston could be the hold up.

“What they would be willing to give up, you’d have to have conditions attached to it,” Schefter said. “What if he doesn’t play for a year? What if he doesn’t play for longer than that? There are a lot of what-ifs and that’s why I go back to the legal questions that hang over this entire situation. So, yeah, do I think there are teams that are interested in trading for him? Absolutely. Do I think there are teams that want conditions attached if he was willing to get [punished]? Yes. Absolutely. And that’s where it gets murky.”

Watson is currently involved in pending litigation as a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women have alleged sexual assault.

“I don’t think Houston wants to trade Deshaun Watson 70 cents on the dollar,” said Schefter. “Houston wants 100 cents on the dollar. What’s the rush for the Texans, right? His value, if goes through what Deshaun thinks it is, it’s not going to go down. So, if that’s the case, then they wait and they see how it goes, and after that all happens, they make a move and get what they hope to be full value for him.”

The Texans intend to roll with former 2015 Pro Bowler Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback with rookie third-rounder Davis Mills earning his playing time. Jeff Driskel is also on the roster to provide support as a backup.
