The Houston Texans offense went 0-10 on third down in their Aug. 21 preseason matchup with the Dallas Cowboys.

Although the Texans picked up their second win of preseason 20-14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Houston can’t always rely on winning the turnover battle 4-0 or the other team playing its second and third stringers during the contest.

Houston has to fix their third down problems, and quarterback Tyrod Taylor has an idea of where to begin.

“We can be better in all phases,” Taylor said after Monday’s practice at NRG Stadium. “Communication is where it starts. Of course, executing. If we weren’t in situations where it was third and nine, manageable; when I say that, 10, 10-plus, we were in third and manageable.”

The Texans only had three third down attempts that were of six yards to gain or greater.

“It’s just about executing and we watch the film and seeing what we can be better at that, and we just got to take the right steps in cleaning that up and getting on the right track this week as we go into the season,” said Taylor.

The Texans will get a chance to fine tune their communication as they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday at NRG Stadium for the preseason finale.
