The Cleveland Indians announce new team name before Washington

Take that off the list

The Washington Redskins officially dropped their controversial name over a year ago. They have been the Washington Football Team, playing under that name for the 2020 season and will continue using it until next year. Team President said the new team name will be announced in early 2022.

The Cleveland Indians are another major league team that has been under a lot of pressure to chief their name and mascot. In 2019 they announced they were getting rid of their Chief Wahoo mascot. Today they announced the team’s new name. Say hello to the Cleveland Guardians.

Now we wait another 7, 8, 9? months for Washington to officially announce their new name.
