Get ready for a lot of eyeballs on the Cowboys.

We are just a few days away from the Dallas Cowboys heading out to Oxnard, California for training camp. Football is just about back, people.

As exciting as it is to know that pet cats are about to be picked and that pads are going to start cracking (metaphorically speaking), we should also be bracing ourselves for the Cowboys to be at the center of the NFL universe for some time.

Dallas is going to be the team featured on Hard Knocks this season, but consider that they are also going to be playing in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game to start the preseason AND the season kickoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (as astutely pointed out by a reddit user). That’s a lot of attention.

We recently discussed the upcoming spotlight that the Cowboys will be under on the latest episode of Girls Talkin ‘Boys on the Blogging The Boys podcast network. Attention is never something that this team has been short on, but a lot of it is ready to dissect how the Cowboys are returning this season. There are a number of storylines to choose from which is why so many are going to be scrutinizing their every move and as noted there are going to be a lot of opportunities for them to do it.

There are some Cowboys fans who don’t enjoy when the team has a lot going on around them as it could potentially distract from the subject at hand – football. Hopefully Mike McCarthy and Co. are ready to turn the blinders on and have the team ready for a season where they need to perform well.

Consider that if the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs this year that they will have gone three years in a row without doing so. The last time that Dallas went three years in a row without playing in the postseason were the first full three years of Jason Garrett’s tenure from 2011 through 2013.

In fact, in Jerry Jones’ ownership of the team (which began in 1989) the Cowboys have only missed the playoffs for at least three straight years twice (2000-2002 and 2010-2013 which was obviously four years).

Nobody wants to add to that.
