August is almost here

Happy Thirsty Thorsday, everyone!

Wow, July is nearly gone. The days are flying by, and with each passing day, we get one day closer to NFL football. I’m always torn at this time of year; not wanting to let go of summer, but excited for football season to finally get here.

I’m going to channel my inner Cliff Clavin here. It’s a little known fact that since 2014, the Vikings have followed a consistent pattern of a down year, which is then followed by an up year with a playoff berth. In Zimmer’s first year, 2014, the team finished with a 7-9 record, followed by an 11-5 finish in 2015 (I’m still convinced this could have been a magical year if it weren’t for the Blair Walsh project going awry), an NFC North title, and…….well, you remember. The team went 8-8 in 2016, but then there was that 13-3 finish in 2017 where the team went all the way to the NFCCG (Should have put Teddy in when he was ready to play that season. Oh, what might have been). The team then finished 8-7-1 in 2018, but followed that season with a 10-6 finish in 2019, which gave them a wild card berth, then they made it to the divisional round but were Cousined by the 49ers 27-10. As we know, the team ended last year at 7-9 and missed the playoffs. SO, if they stick to the pattern, 2021 should be a great year for the purple and gold, and we all know that they will stick to the pattern (right, Kodiak?). Does this all mean anything? Absolutely not, but I had nothing else to write about, so there you go. SKOL!!!!!!!!!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

These are crickets, FYI

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

From NFL.com, the Packers acquired Randall Cobb from the Texans for a sixth-round pick. They may need him, because…….

Davante Adams wants to be the NFL’s highest-paid WR, and doesn’t want to negotiate with Packers during season, according to NFL.com.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Welcome aboard! Belly up & tie one one, don’t forget to tip the cows, and try the head cheese.
