Troy Fumagalli had been waived with the injury designation at the 85-man deadline.

Troy Fumagalli cleared waivers and reverted to the New England Patriots’ injured reserve on Wednesday, according to the NFL transaction wire.

The 26-year-old tight end had been waived by New England with the injury designation as the 85-man roster deadline passed Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Fumagalli entered the league in the fifth round of the 2018 draft out of Wisconsin. The former walk-on, first-team All-Big Ten selection and Cotton Bowl MVP signed with the Patriots in May after making previous stops with the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans.

Through 19 career games and five starts, Fumagalli stands with 14 receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns. He saw 135 snaps on offense and 47 snaps on special teams last season upon returning to Denver in November as a member of the practice squad.

Fumagalli now marks the second tight end to be placed on injured reserve by the Patriots since the calendar reached August, following 2020 draft pick Dalton Keene.

New England’s active depth chart includes Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Matt LaCosse and Devin Asiasi, who arrived last spring at No. 91 overall and concluded joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles as the lone available tight end aside from fullback Jakob Johnson.

The preseason continues for the Patriots with a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field.
