Tom Brady Complains About Lack of Quality in the NFL

Tom Brady finally brought an end to his glittering NFL career on February 1st, 2023, coming after he had, of course, previously revered an earlier decision to quit the game, and now the seven-time Super Bowl champion is set to become a hugely successful pundit and to get that ball rolling the quarterback has made a point of discussing the lack of quality in the league today.

Clearly, no one has achieved more in the game than the veteran former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers star, and therefore his opinion on the game will never not be valid, and his recent comments are rather damning.

Brady, appearing on The Stephen A. Smith Show, stated of the current qualify of the NFL;

“I think there’s a lot of mediocrity in today’s NFL,”

“I don’t see the excellence that I saw in the past.”

“I think the coaching isn’t as good as it was,” Brady added. “I don’t think the development of young players is as good as it was. I don’t think the schemes are as good as they were.” Brady continued.

“The rules have allowed a lot of bad habits to get into the actual performance of the game. So I just think the product in my opinion is less than what it’s been.”

Brady went on to comment,

“I look at a lot of players like Ray Lewis and Rodney Harrison and Ronnie Lott and guys that impacted the game in a certain way — and every hit they would have made would have been a penalty,”

“You hear coaches complaining about their own player being tackled and not necessarily — why don’t they talk to their player about how to protect himself?”

“Offensive players need to protect themselves. It’s not up to a defensive player to protect an offensive player. … I think a lot of the way that the rules have come into play have allowed this; you can essentially play carefree, and then if anyone hits you hard, there’s a penalty.” Brady concluded.

These comments are more than just a little harsh and will not be ignored. Obviously, Brady has earned the right to say it as he sees it, but it’s likely these damning words will be picked apart by players and coaches in the coming days, and Brady is certainly getting into gear as regards his punditry.

The 46-year-old will begin his career as a FOX Sports analyst in 2024, having signed a whopping 10-year contract reportedly worth an astounding $375 million.
