As if starting 0-2 in the preseason with few signs of life on offense wasn’t bad enough, the Jaguars are now dealing with a potentially costly Travis Etienne injury situation.

The 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, running back Travis Etienne, suffered a lisfranc injury in the Jaguars’ Monday night loss to the Saints. According to Ian Rapoport, the X-rays came back negative. The team is awaiting further test results that will reveal the severity and expected timetable for return.

The lisfranc injury generally does not allow for a quick return, but until we know more information, I won’t speculate.

While being a focal point of the offense — both as a runner and receiver — in practices throughout the summer, Travis Etienne hadn’t found his footing during the preseason. He carried the ball just once in the opener against the Browns. His lone target in that contest was an errant Gardner Minshew throw that wasn’t anywhere close to catchable. In New Orleans, he carried the ball just once before suffering a foot injury.

“He’s shown me great talent,” head coach Urban Meyer said after the game. “We were planning on using him, and I look up, and he is limping off of the field. He was out in the open space … I see what everyone else sees, a talented guy who we’ve got to get in space.”
