The Atlanta Falcons surprised many around the NFL when they hired Raheem Morris as the 19th head coach in franchise history. While Morris was more than qualified for the job, former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was believed to be the front-runner throughout the team’s coaching search.

Belichick even met with Falcons owner Arthur Blank on his private yacht, which led many to assume a deal was imminent. Not only did Belichick get passed over by Atlanta, but the six-time Super Bowl champion was unable to secure a job despite eight different head coach openings around the league.

In a new ESPN feature, Don Van Natta Jr., Seth Wickersham and Jeremy Fowler broke down why former Patriots coach failed to land a job this offseason. The story contains an interesting tidbit that could explain why the Falcons soured on Belichick. Apparently, Patriots owner Robert Kraft told Blank not to trust Belichick.
