After spending the last year in the broadcast booth for CBS, former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday afternoon. Ryan, who Atlanta selected with the third overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, signed a one-day contract with the team to retire as a Falcon.

Ryan was thrown into a tough situation but led the team to a playoff berth while winning the 2008 Offensive Rookie of the Year award. The former Boston College star racked up 59,735 passing yards, 367 touchdowns, 170 interceptions and a league MVP award over his 14 seasons in Atlanta.

NFL fans on Twitter, including some current and former teammates, expressed gratitude to Ryan following his announcement on Monday.
