Undrafted rookie OT BJ Wilson makes history by signing with Panthers

We’re still waiting on the Carolina Panthers to sign a few of those tryout players head coach Frank Reich talked about this past weekend. But, in the meantime, they have helped make some history with a recent addition to the roster.

As confirmed by team reporter Darin Gantt on Monday afternoon, the Panthers have signed offensive tackle BJ Wilson. The undrafted rookie is now the first player from Quincy University to ever join an NFL team.

Wilson stands at a massive 6-foot-6 and 337 pounds, while also possessing an 84-inch wingspan and 10.5-inch mitts. He played five seasons for Quincy, a Division II program, between 2017 and 2022 at the left and right tackle positions.

The Florissant, Mo. native spoke about the moment he found out that he’d be headed to Carolina.

“I’m in a crowded airport in a very public space and I have a smile creeping up on my face,” Wilson said, per Matt Schuckman of Muddy River Sports. “I’m not trying to make a scene, but you could tell I’m breathing really hard and getting really excited. It just felt amazing.”

Wilson was an All-Great Lakes Valley Conference first-team member in 2022 and a second-team member in 2022. He also holds Quincy’s all-time record for career starts (45).
