The Minnesota Vikings are getting a fresh voice in their quarterbacks’ ears.

As announced on Tuesday afternoon, the team is hiring Josh McCown as their new quarterbacks coach. The former passer served in the same role for the Carolina Panthers this past year, but was fired just 11 games into the regular season.

McCown was one of the many “all-star” hires the Panthers made last winter. Just like the bulk of them, however, his stint was short and ineffective.

When a Week 12 loss to the Tennessee Titans moved them to a 1-10 mark, the organization decided to part ways with head coach Frank Reich the following morning. A few hours later, the team also dismissed McCown and assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley

The rest of the staff stayed on, with special teams coordinator Chris Tabor taking Reich’s place and offensive coordinator Thomas Brown assuming play-calling duties.

Staley has since found a new gig—as the running backs coach for the Cleveland Browns.
