Dustin Hopkins isn’t going anywhere

The Washington Football Team has been making a lot of moves to the bottom of their roster/practice squad since cutting down to their initial 53-man roster.

After Peyton Barber was signed from the practice squad by the Las Vegas Raiders, the team signed RB Jonathan Williams to the practice squad. He had been with them all off-season, and was the obvious candidate to replace Barber.

Jimmy Moreland was a surprising cut to a lot of people. The People’s Corner was released with an injury designation(knee bruise) and reverted to IR. He was then released with an injury stlettlement and claimed by the Houston Texans. The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly planned to sign him after Week 1.

Washington released C Jon Tooth and signed Jaret Patterson’s former college teammate from Buffalo T Evin Ksiezarczyk to the practice squad.

Washington has the option to protect up to 4 players from the practice squad starting Tuesday. The protection ends after their weekly game is over. LBs Jordan Kunaszyk and Jared Norris, G Wes Martin, and DE Daniel Wise got that protection this week. WR Antonio Gandy-Golden did not.

Washington hosted 4 players for workouts this week. Evin Ksiezarczyk was the only player to get a contract from the group.

Washington is allowed to elevate 2 players from the practice squad to the 53-man roster every week. Players are only allowed to be elevated twice before they have to be signed to the main roster. Washington chose to only elevate 1 player this week. LB Jared Norris is a valuable special teams contributor and has been called up to fill that role vs the Chargers this week. Washington will only have 5 inactive players tomorrow.

That competition ended quickly. Kicker Eddy Pineiro was brought in as insurance for Dustin Hopkins. Rivera had said he could kick and punt and would also travel with the team for away games as insurance for both specialists. Those plans no longer involve Eddy Pineiro. We’ll have to see if the team signs another kicker, or if they don’t feel the need to carry one this season.

Update: Pineiro was released with an injury settlement
