Things are not going great for the Jacksonville Jaguars five games into the 2021 season. The Jaguars fell to 0-5 after a 37-19 loss at home to AFC South rival, the Tennessee Titans, and have now lost 20 games in a row dating back to 2020.

Head coach Urban Meyer doesn’t seem to have the answers right now, and Meyer, his staff and the players have a lot to figure out before things really spiral out of control for Jacksonville — if they haven’t already.

There were 18 players who saw offensive snaps for the Jaguars on Sunday. Center Brandon Linder suffered both a high-ankle sprain and sprained MCL in the fourth quarter, so he played 56 of the total 71 offensive snaps. Linder is expected to miss four or five weeks.

Five players played 100 percent of the offensive snaps: rookie quarterback Trevor Lawerence and offensive linemen Jawaan Taylor, Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell and Ben Bartch (who was starting for an injured A.J. Cann). For the second week in a row, wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. played nearly all of the snaps, but came up just short with 66 reps out of the 71 total plays (93 percent). Something else that stands out here is that running back James Robinson — who was averaging 8.3 yards per carry, had a career high 149 rushing yards and scored a touchdown — only played 68 percent of the offensive snaps (48). Robinson was having a lot of success, and his lack of usage on certain situations — such as the fourth-and-goal play — was a bit puzzling.

As expected, recently acquired tight end Dan Arnold saw his role grow exponentially this week compared to last week. He played 52 snaps (73 percent of total snaps) and was targeted eight times, catching six of those for 68 yards. Last week against the Bengals, Arnold only played 18 snaps, but had only been with the team for a couple of days before the Thursday Night Football matchup. Lawrence and Arnold already seem to be forming a solid connection.

Wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. played 73 percent of the snaps (52), but was only targeted three times, catching one ball (that went for a big gain). With D.J. Chark Jr. out, fellow wide receiver and special teams ace Jamal Agnew saw his offensive role increase, playing 45 reps (63 percent).

A whopping 22 players saw defensive snaps this past week, which is the most that we have tracked this season. Linebacker Myles Jack suffered an oblique injury, which opened up more defensive playing time for fellow linebackers Shaquille Quarterman, Dakota Allen and Chapelle Russell. Quarterman played the most reps out of those three with 18 snaps. Jack is considered “day-to-day.”

This week, only cornerback Shaquill Griffin and safety Andrew Wingard played 100 percent of the defensive snaps. Rayshawn Jenkins played all but one play, however, getting in 63 out of a possible 64 snaps. With rookie cornerback Tyson Campbell missing the game with a toe injury, fellow cornerback Chris Claybrook saw his defensive playing time increase with 41 plays, while cornerback Tre Herndon played 33 snaps.

With defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris out (ankle), rookie defensive tackle Jay Tufele made his debut, playing 13 snaps.
