Things are not going great for the Jacksonville Jaguars five games into the 2021 season. The Jaguars fell to 0-5 after a 37-19 loss at home to AFC South rival, the Tennessee Titans, and have now lost 20 games in a row dating back to 2020.

Head coach Urban Meyer doesn’t seem to have the answers right now, and Meyer, his staff and the players have a lot to figure out before things really spiral out of control for Jacksonville — if they haven’t already.

It’s the start of a new week, which means it’s time to look at snap counts for the Jaguars after Sunday’s loss to the Titans. If you’re curious at the snap count distribution for the previous week’s contest against the Cincinnati Bengals, read here.

Note: Number of plays are listed next to the player’s name/position and percentage of total offensive plays are listed in parentheses.

Offense

  • Jawaan Taylor, tackle, 71 plays (100 percent)
  • Andrew Norwell, guard, 71 plays (100 percent)
  • Cam Robinson, tackle, 71 plays (100 percent)
  • Ben Bartch, tackle, 71 plays (100 percent)
  • Trevor Lawrence (rookie), quarterback, 71 plays (100 percent)
  • Marvin Jones, wide receiver, 66 plays (93 percent)
  • Brandon Linder, center, 56 plays (79 percent)
  • Dan Arnold, tight end, 52 plays (73 percent)
  • Laviska Shenault, wide receiver, 52 plays (73 percent)
  • James Robinson, running back, 48 plays (68 percent)
  • Jamal Agnew, wide receiver, 45 plays (63 percent)
  • Tavon Austin, wide receiver, 24 plays (34 percent)
  • Chris Manhertz, tight end, 22 plays (31 percent)
  • Carlos Hyde, running back, 18 plays (25 percent)
  • Jacob Hollister, tight end, 15 plays (21 percent)
  • Tyler Shatley, offensive guard, 15 plays (21 percent)
  • Luke Farrell (rookie), tight end, eight plays (11 percent)
  • Dare Ogunbowale, running back, five plays (seven percent)

There were 18 players who saw offensive snaps for the Jaguars on Sunday. Center Brandon Linder suffered both a high-ankle sprain and sprained MCL in the fourth quarter, so he played 56 of the total 71 offensive snaps. Linder is expected to miss four or five weeks.

Five players played 100 percent of the offensive snaps: rookie quarterback Trevor Lawerence and offensive linemen Jawaan Taylor, Cam Robinson, Andrew Norwell and Ben Bartch (who was starting for an injured A.J. Cann). For the second week in a row, wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. played nearly all of the snaps, but came up just short with 66 reps out of the 71 total plays (93 percent). Something else that stands out here is that running back James Robinson — who was averaging 8.3 yards per carry, had a career high 149 rushing yards and scored a touchdown — only played 68 percent of the offensive snaps (48). Robinson was having a lot of success, and his lack of usage on certain situations — such as the fourth-and-goal play — was a bit puzzling.

As expected, recently acquired tight end Dan Arnold saw his role grow exponentially this week compared to last week. He played 52 snaps (73 percent of total snaps) and was targeted eight times, catching six of those for 68 yards. Last week against the Bengals, Arnold only played 18 snaps, but had only been with the team for a couple of days before the Thursday Night Football matchup. Lawrence and Arnold already seem to be forming a solid connection.

Wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. played 73 percent of the snaps (52), but was only targeted three times, catching one ball (that went for a big gain). With D.J. Chark Jr. out, fellow wide receiver and special teams ace Jamal Agnew saw his offensive role increase, playing 45 reps (63 percent).

Defense

  • Andrew Wingard, free safety, 64 plays (100 percent)
  • Shaquill Griffin, cornerback, 64 plays (100 percent)
  • Rayshawn Jenkins, strong safety, 63 plays (98 percent)
  • Damien Wilson, linebacker, 55 plays (86 percent)
  • Malcom Brown, defensive tackle, 43 plays (67 percent)
  • Josh Allen, outside linebacker/edge, 43 plays (67 percent)
  • Chris Claybrooks, cornerback, 41 plays (64 percent)
  • Dawuane Smoot, defensive end, 41 plays (64 percent)
  • Adam Gotsis, defensive end, 39 plays (61 percent)
  • DaVon Hamilton, nose tackle, 35 plays (55 percent)
  • Myles Jack, linebacker, 34 plays (53 percent)
  • Tre Herndon, cornerback, 33 plays (52 percent)
  • K’Lavon Chaisson, outside linebacker/edge, 33 plays (52 percent)
  • Jihad Ward, outside linebacker/edge, 27 plays (42 percent)
  • Nevin Lawson, cornerback, 21 plays (33 percent)
  • Shaquille Quarterman, linebacker, 18 plays (28 percent)
  • Taven Bryan, defensive tackle, 18 plays (28 percent)
  • Jay Tufele (rookie), defensive tackle, 13 plays (20 percent)
  • Dakota Allen, linebacker, seven plays (11 percent)
  • Rudy Ford, strong safety, six plays (nine percent)
  • Chapelle Russell, linebacker, five plays (eight percent)
  • Daniel Thomas, safety, one play (two percent)

A whopping 22 players saw defensive snaps this past week, which is the most that we have tracked this season. Linebacker Myles Jack suffered an oblique injury, which opened up more defensive playing time for fellow linebackers Shaquille Quarterman, Dakota Allen and Chapelle Russell. Quarterman played the most reps out of those three with 18 snaps. Jack is considered “day-to-day.”

This week, only cornerback Shaquill Griffin and safety Andrew Wingard played 100 percent of the defensive snaps. Rayshawn Jenkins played all but one play, however, getting in 63 out of a possible 64 snaps. With rookie cornerback Tyson Campbell missing the game with a toe injury, fellow cornerback Chris Claybrook saw his defensive playing time increase with 41 plays, while cornerback Tre Herndon played 33 snaps.

With defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris out (ankle), rookie defensive tackle Jay Tufele made his debut, playing 13 snaps.

  • Tre Herndon, cornerback, seven plays (27 percent)
  • Malcom Brown, defensive tackle, six plays (23 percent)
  • Josh Allen, outside linebacker/edge, six plays (23 percent)
  • Ross Matiscik, long snapper, five plays (19 percent)
  • Shaquill Griffin, cornerback, five plays (19 percent)
  • K’Lavon Chaisson, outside linebacker/edge, four plays (15 percent)
  • Matthew Wright, kicker, three plays (12 percent)
  • Ben Bartch, offensive tackle, three plays (12 percent)
  • Andrew Norwell, offensive guard, three plays (12 percent)
  • Jawaan Taylor, offensive tackle, three plays (12 percent)
  • Tyler Shatley, offensive guard, three plays (12 percent)
  • Will Richardson, offensive tackle, three plays (12 percent)

Matthew Wright filled in for Josh Lambo at kicker once again, but missed a 53-yard field goal attempt and an extra point.
