While the Houston Texans aren’t in need of a starting defensive end, depth is essential in winning a title. Another pass-rusher is headed to NRG Stadium before Houston makes its first selection at pick No. 42.

Western Michigan defensive end Marshawn Kneeland is set to meet with the franchise for a Top-30 visit, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garfolo. Kneedland continues to climb up draft boards following a stellar combine performance last month in Indianapolis.

At 6-foot-3, Kneeland uses his size and brute strength to overpower tackles and force his way into the backfield. Last season with the Broncos, Kneeland totaled 57 tackles, 7.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks.

During the combine, Kneeland posted a 4.75 40-time, along with a 35.5-inch vertical jump and 9-foot-11 broad jump. On the bench press, he repped 21 sets of 225.

Houston, fresh off an AFC South division title, returns Defensive Rookie of the Year Will Anderson Jr. Despite losing sack leader Jonathan Greenard to free agency, the Texans basically swapped edge rushers by inking four-time Pro Bowler Danielle Hunter to a two-year deal worth up to $51 million.

Hunter, fresh off a career year in tackles for loss (23), should be the leader in the trenches and a teacher to Anderson. The Texans also brought back No. 3 pass-rusher Derek Barnett, who started four games last year and totaled 3.5 sacks.

DeMeco Ryans loves pass-rushers with the ability to shift inside. During his final two years in Kalamazoo, Kneeland played a three-tech on multiple pass-rushing sets to strengthen the pressure rate up the middle.

When could Kneeland come off the board? Most believe he’s a top-50 talent and should be gone before Houston selects at pick No. 86. Defensive and cornerback remain priority positions for the team following free agency, should be addressed before anything else.

The Texans currently own nine picks over the seven rounds, including two in the second (No. 42, No. 59) and two more in the fourth (No. 123, No. 126).
