Why Packers weren’t called for a false start on their game-winning field goal

Logan Wilson pointed, but he really didn’t have a case.

The Cincinnati Bengals set up Evan McPherson for two game-winning field goals, and the rookie barely missed both attempts.

The Green Bay Packers helped make those possible as Mason Crosby missed two game-winning tries himself. Cincinnati ended up losing the game as Crosby finally knocked in a 49-yard game-winning field goal.

Former Bengals great Willie Anderson questioned on Twitter whether or not the Packers should’ve been called for a false start.

However, Locked On Bengals’ Jake Liscow went into detail why it wasn’t called.

Had the penalty been called, the field goal would’ve been pushed to 54 yards, giving Crosby more of a challenge and just another chance to give the Bengals renewed hope. However, it wasn’t called, and he made the kick.

It was a good day overall for the Green Bay offensive line. They gave up just two sacks on the day. The Packers as a team also had just two penalties, so it was a solid performance in those areas for Green Bay.

The Bengals are now 3-2, and they showed enough to truly be viewed as contenders. This was easily their most difficult challenge thus far into the 2021 season, and the narrative would be completely changed if McPherson could’ve nailed in the original 57-yarder.

While no one is claiming it’s all on the rookie, the conversation would’ve certainly been different if he kicked yet another game-winner. Ultimately, the Bengals need to rebound in a big way vs. the win-less Detroit Lions in Week 6.
