Day 7 of the Steelers Trifecta! Featuring Aviante Collins, Rashaad Coward, and Anthony Coyle.

Welcome to the Steelers Trifecta! Over the 30 days leading up to the Pittsburgh Steelers 2021 training camp, we will be highlighting three players every day in order cover the entire 90-man offseason roster. So without further ado, here are today’s three players:

Aviante Collins

Position: Offensive Tackle
Age: 28
Year: 4
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 292
Drafted: UDFA 2017 (Minnesota Vikings)
College: TCU
Roster Outlook: Unlikely
Analysis:

After four years in the Minnesota Vikings organization, Aviante Collins signed a Reserve/Future contract with the Steelers in February. Collins appeared in three games in 2017 for the Vikings but missed 2018 with an elbow injury. Spending the majority of 2019 on the Vikings practice squad, Collins did start their Week 17 game. In 2020 Collins landed on the practice squad again and was elevated for one game in which he did not appear. With the Steelers having a number of young tackles going into training camp, Colins does have a chance to shine, but his most likely course would be trying to catch on the practice squad yet again.

Rashaad Coward

NFL: OCT 08 Buccaneers at Bears

Position: Offensive Line
Age: 26
Year: 4
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 326
Drafted: UDFA 2017 (Chicago Bears)
College: Old Dominion
Roster Outlook: Likely
Analysis:

A converted the defensive tackle, Coward does bring some starting experience at the guard position with 15 starts over the last two years. With the release of David DeCastro and the signing of Trai Turner, Coward could use the unfamiliarity with Turner to try to grab a starting position should he rise to the occasion. The most likely path for Coward is to make the Steelers 53-man roster as depth at guard should he perform well enough in the preseason.

Anthony Coyle

Position: Offensive Tackle
Age: 24
Year: 2
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 298
Drafted: UDFA 2019 (Houston Texans)
College: Fordham
Roster Outlook: Unlikely
Analysis:

After not sticking with the Houston Texans out of college and a brief stent on the Falcons practice squad, Coyle found his way to the NFL via the XFL. Playing for the New York Guardians, Coyle was brought in last season to the Steelers and spent the entire year on the practice squad. Well, almost the whole year. Coyle was elevated to the active roster for three games in 2020, but did not see a single snap. Although it would appear Coyle would have an inside track with the Steelers, it’s most likely by way of the practice squad yet again as there will be no less than four players already ahead of him on the depth chart.
