Franchise right tackle?

The Cincinnati Bengals selected what they believe to be their franchise right tackle in the ultra-talented Amarius Mims out of the University of Georgia Thursday night.

Many draft experts say Mims has the most upside of any tackle in the 2024 NFL Draft class, but some are concerned with his injury history and lack of starts in college.

As his dream of becoming an NFL Draft pick came true, life-changing money will come with it. Mims’ contract details with the Bengals were revealed Friday. With the rookie wage scale, it is largely a predetermined number based on where he was selected in the draft.

Per Spotrac, Mims is looking at a four-year contract worth $15.3 million. The deal will include a $7.9 million signing bonus. The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a fifth-year option for 2028.

If it all pans out with Mims as planned, the fifth-year option will likely be a bargain for the Bengals as the salary cap and contract numbers rise.

Mims will learn behind Orlando Brown Jr. and Trent Brown in his first season, and if recent history holds true, Mims may find himself on the field as a rookie. Over the last three seasons, the Bengals have had to use a reserve tackle on an average of five weeks per season.

The vision for the offensive line is clear – Brown Jr. and Mims are slotted to become the bookend tackles of the next decade (hopefully).
