Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid joined the local Kansas City media via Zoom for his final press conference of the week on Friday afternoon, commenting on three key players headed into Sunday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

Defensive lineman Chris Jones

After being limited in practice the past two weeks due to a wrist injury, Jones did not practice at all this week as the team tried to get it healed.

“We’ll just see how he does here in the next couple days,” said Reid of Jones’ status. “We’re trying to get it calmed down, so that’s the main thing.”

Reid added that Jones is a player who is capable of going even without having practiced.

Linebacker Willie Gay

Gay was designated to return from injured reserve on Tuesday and practiced Wednesday and Thursday before leaving practice for personal reasons on Friday. Gay’s preseason turf toe injury has cost him every regular-season game in 2021.

“We’ll have to see — see how it goes here in the next couple of days with that,” said Reid. “As long as he can get in and know his stuff and feels comfortable with his foot, we’d be OK there.”

Gay won’t have an injury status, as he is still not on the 53-man roster.

Wide receiver Josh Gordon

Gordon was signed to the Chiefs’ 53-man roster on Tuesday.

“We’ll see just how that goes,” said Reid. “We’ll just see how all that works out as we go through [Saturday] and get ready for Sunday. I’m going to talk to him and just see how this week went for him.”

Another note

On the bright side for the Chiefs, it sounded like Reid believed that cornerbacks Rashad Fenton (concussion) Charvarius Ward (quad) are trending in the right direction to play.
