Cincinnati Bengals coaches see Joe Burrow’s role in the schematics and execution of the offense growing even more as he heads into his fourth season as a pro.

We’ve heard stories of Burrow calling the offense with headsets out and he makes plenty of adjustments at the line of scrimmage.

But offensive coordinator Brian Callahan says it’s going to be fun in 2023 as Burrow gets more involved on the schematic side of things while he makes input across the board.

“Now we’ve reached the point going into (Burrow’s) year four where, schematically, he’s got a lot of input, too. That’s a lot of fun,” Callahan said, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. “There are more peer conversations as opposed to us trying to tell him what to do. That’s when it starts to get really fun. The quarterback has great input to make big adjustments and give his thoughts and feelings about plays and what position to put players in.”

That’s exciting to hear for Bengals fans considering Burrow has evolved his game each and every year as a pro so far. This year, it was changing up his game to take fewer sacks and counter the adjustments defenses made, fueling an MVP-like run down the stretch that included 10 straight wins.

While much of the outside focus this offseason will center on Burrow’s extension, the fact he could have his first healthy, normal offseason as a pro and continue to evolve as a player before and after the snap shouldn’t go unnoticed, either.
