Battling injuries to the interior of the defensive line ahead of their divisional-round playoff game against the Tennesse Titans, the Cincinnati Bengals dipped into free agency for help.

The Bengals hosted the following three players on a tryout basis ahead of the playoff game:

  • DT Doug Costin
  • Woodrow Hamilton
  • T.Y. McGill

They ended up signing Costin, a second-year player out of Miami (Ohio) University who has 13 career games under his belt, all of those previously with the Jaguars.

To make room, the Bengals cut veteran guard Xavier Su’a-Filo, which frees roughly $3 million in cap space for the future. The Bengals have some of the most cap space of any team in the NFL and the most of any playoff team already.

Adding Costin is a precautionary move with Larry Ogunjobi going to injured reserve and Josh Tupou still working his way back on the injury report.
