It’s always fun to relive the happy moments of our Texans fandom… it’s not too long of a list

It was only two weeks ago when Nick Caserio landing his biggest acquisition yet by acquiring wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a move that excited the Texans fanbase and put the entire NFL on notice. In the aftermath of such a move, Texans have become for what may be the first time in franchise history… a media darling. Coverage of the team has never been higher… almost as high as the hopes are for the 2024 season.

Before we get carried away or the story slips away into reality, let’s peer back a few weeks ago to see how your Houston Texans writers reacted to the big news:

Vballretired:

I am cautiously optimistic. My issue is that he will demand a heavy volume of targets and that might have a dramatic impact on Collins and Dell. I’ll be interested to see how it works but he’s definitely going for it. When I read that we somehow got two picks back AND they are eating 31 million it makes me wonder what they know that we don’t. Yet, even if he’s just better than Robert Woods it’s still a solid trade. Even if only his reputation dictates that Collins and Dell draw single coverage it’s a good deal. If he’s still near Pro Bowl caliber this is an absolute steal. (edited)

Randallbronn:

This is the kindve thing that pushes good teams into Super Bowl status. Diggs is a legit number 1 receiver who will demand attention from defences and while I understand the thought that this may affect Collins and Dell, Bobby Slowik has proven he can get the ball to anyone, anywhere, at any time and adding diggs to this team just makes Slowiks job that much easier. I understand the negative “aura” surrounding Diggs but the one thing that kept Diggs Quiet in Buffalo was when they were winning and I have so much faith in the this Texans team to do a lot of winning your not gonna hear a peep out of Diggs.

FizzyJoe:

Absolutely amazing! I’m thrilled, and also yelled while at work when I first saw it haha. Even though Diggs has declined a bit, he’s still one of the best receivers in the league and immediately makes Houston a fully loaded offense. It’s hard to imagine what a Collins/Dell/Diggs lineup really looks like, but it’s going to be one heck of a sight. And just for a 2nd rounder next year??? I thought the Bills wouldn’t give him up without a nice offer, but just a 2025 2nd rounder? Perfect.

l4blitzer:

This is definitely not the type of move we’ve seen from Houston in the last few years, if ever. My initial thought was “Holy [KITTEN]!!! Diggs…with Stroud, AND Collins, AND Dell!!!! This could be a fun offense!!!” Then I read about the details of the deal. Buffalo sends us two picks, including the always required 6th rounder that a New England Alum will always ask for, AND Diggs…for just a 2nd, and not our organic one at that, but the original Minnesota 2025 2nd rounder (yes, Diggs and the Vikings are still linked).

While happy, I am wondering, did Buffalo really view Diggs as THAT toxic an asset to off-load at the first opportunity? This would appear to be our DeAndre Hopkins trade in reverse, only just not quite as bad as the BO’B deal. While Houston is currently on the hook for only 1 year guaranteed money, will we get the focused Diggs, or do we get the one with cryptic tweets and a negative aura? If the former…look out (smiley face emoji). If the latter…look out (not smiley face emoji).

Kenneth L.:

This is wild. The offense is massive. I don’t know what we do with Nico and all of the other WRs in this room, but man does this offense get fun quickly. Though, I do think that this puts either John Metchie III or Robert Woods on the chopping block. Texans are officially in a win now mode and I love to see it. Caserio isn’t wasting any time assembling the Avengers.

My biggest question is, in a draft filled with premier wide receiver talent at an affordable price, is it worth it? Houston could have several years of a top-end receiver such as Xavier Leggett instead of a receiver who regressed last season. It’s awesome and puts Houston on the map, but how balanced are we playing the long game?
