It can’t all be bad, can it?

Waking up on Sunday and realizing that the Broncos couldn’t lose was slightly refreshing. Then the haunting memory of Thursday’s debacle against the Browns quickly squashed that relief.

Where do we go from here?

Going into week 8, the Broncos are reeling from four-straight losses, none of them as close as their scores would suggest. The highly touted defense has been eviscerated at linebacker and doesn’t seem capable of stopping anyone from doing anything. The offense continues to be run by someone with the imagination of a warm loaf of Velveeta. Special teams is just happy that other phases of the game have finally become so terrible as to draw focus away from deficiencies there.

There’s not much to be excited about and that stinks.

I’d love to highlight certain players that I think could stick around and weather this storm, but let’s be truthful. The days of the Broncos being buyers at the trade deadline was a long time ago. GM George Paton doesn’t have an obligation of to any of the guys that preceded him. This team is playing poorly and it may be time to strip the value from it and start over completely.

It’s not yet November and broad swaths of Broncos Country believe the season is already over.

So what’s one positive about this Broncos team?

Brandon McManus. In a year when kickers are doinking balls everywhere but through the uprights, McManus hasn’t missed anything, 12/12 on field goals and 14/14 for PATs. So there you go, Broncos Country.

The silver lining of the 2021 Broncos, so far, is the kicker. If this isn’t a great start to your week, I don’t know what is.
