The Lewisville, TX native has signed on for another year as a Bronco, but can he make the 53-man roster?

WR Trinity Benson: Height: 6’0” / Weight: 180 / Age: 24 / College: East Central

The WR originally hailing from East Central University (Ada, OK) was cut by Denver last September but signed a reserve/future contract with the Broncos this January and is going into his third season.

Since being signed on as an UDFA in 2019, Benson hasn’t played any regular season games.

2019 Preseason

per The Football Database

Benson started one game in the 2019 preseason and played in five, during which he recorded three receptions for 55 yards, three FDs, and two YACs. These games were against Arizona, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco, Seattle, and Atlanta. He showed moments of greatness in his speed but as a whole struggled to take the top off the defenses.

On Aug. 31 of 2019 he was cut from the roster, but shortly after landed on the practice squad.

The Good

Benson is fast and has a great jump, having recorded a 4.44 40 and a 40.5-inch vertical leap on his Pro Day with ECU (2019). He had a promising college career that included 1700 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, and he seemed to be developing his skills in the ‘19 preseason as a Bronco.

There’s always potential for him to use his speed for special teams as well, given that he had 35 kickoff returns for 642 yards as a Tiger.

Despite not making a 53-man roster yet, Benson showed enough bursts of potential to get him back into training camp for 2021.

The Bad

The hype around Benson’s speed (so far) hasn’t translated on the field as much as was hoped. That, coupled with his lack of explosive plays in the past few years, makes it seem unlikely that he’ll beat out Denver’s other receivers for his first roster spot.

Final Word

With players like Court Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler, Tim Patrick, and backups Seth Williams and Tyrie Cleveland, the chances of him getting a shot on the field look slim. A few of these wideouts recently reported injuries or minor health upsets (Sutton’s knee, Jeudy’s stomach, Hamler and Patrick’s hamstrings), but all are expected to be medically cleared by training camp on July 27.
