It is draft week, so mock drafts aplenty

Generally speaking, fans of the NFL fall into two camps when it comes to NFL draft coverage:

  • Never enough
  • Too much, way way way too much

For the second group, that is especially true with NFL mock drafts as everyone now produces them, with the help of multiple mock draft simulators, and the flood of information can be overwhelming. For the first group, everything in the previous sentence is true except instead of “overwhelming” it is “awesome.”

The Cleveland Browns hold six selections in the 2024 NFL draft but just two in the top 100 which makes their mock drafts a little less exciting for fans. While we’ve given you as many versions of Browns mock drafts, like the one linked above, it is interesting to delve into what national sites have for Cleveland.

We recently covered what Pro Football Network’s 7-round mock draft brought to the Browns. Now, on Monday of draft week, we round up three more national mock drafts to see how different their hauls are:

ESPN Mock Draft (Insider, $)

  • DT Michael Hall Jr., Ohio State
  • OT Javon Foster, Missouri
  • WR Tahj Washington, USC
  • RB Isaiah Davis, South Dakota State
  • LB Jordan Magee, Temple
  • S Evan Williams, Oregon

Hall has been noted in a lot of mock drafts for Cleveland but there is the question of space for another defensive tackle. The rest of Jordan Reid’s mock has some new names for Browns fans to look up.

PFF Mock Draft

  • WR Keon Coleman, Florida State
  • OT Dominic Puni, Kansas
  • LB Trevin Wallace, Kentucky
  • LB Curtis Jacobs, Penn State
  • OT Sataoa Laumea, Utah
  • CB Ryan Watts, Texas

Coleman is a polarizing prospect. PFF notes he’s a contested catch maven but, generally, prospects who can’t separate at the college level don’t succeed in the NFL. Puni is noted as more of a guard which may make sense given Joel Bitonio’s age but doesn’t have the same value as he would as a tackle.

CBS Sports Mock Draft

  • DT Maason Smith, LSU
  • OT Kiran Amegadjie, Yale
  • TE Tanner McLachlan, Arizona
  • RB Rasheen Ali, Marshall
  • OL Dalton Tucker, Marshall
  • CB Ja’Quan Sheppard, Maryland

To be honest, one of my least favorite overall Cleveland mock drafts. (Full disclosure: The author, Josh Edwards, is a professional friend of mine so I feel bad saying that about his mock as I know he gives the Browns specific attention having previously covered the team.)

Smith looks the part but there are concerns about his overall game. Amegadjie is a good developmental pick for Cleveland to work with but the rest of the draft lacks the overall impact players and positions I’d like to see.

It is very interesting to see that three national Browns mock drafts and not one of the prospects is seen in more than one draft.

If you had to choose one of the three, which national mock draft would you like to see Cleveland have at the end of the weekend?
