Joe Flacco gets the nod with DTR ruled out

The Cleveland Browns will be starting their fourth quarterback of the season in Week 13 of 2023. Friday, the Browns ruled out starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson as the rookie has been unable to practice all week due to his concussion.

With DTR out, veteran Joe Flacco, recently named the team’s backup quarterback, will get the start.

Going from Deshaun Watson to DTR to PJ Walker back to DTR and now to Flacco should have torpedoed the Browns season but the team sits at 7-4 going into this week’s game versus the Los Angeles Rams. The offense has had two clear issues, mostly due to the play at quarterback.

Flacco’s recent performance gives pause to the assumption that the veteran will be able to right the ship.

Cleveland signed Flacco to their practice squad on November 20th and will now start a game less than two weeks later. The Browns will be required to either elevate the veteran from the practice squad or sign him to the 53-man roster in advance of Sunday’s game.

If Cleveland is able to make the playoffs they will not be the first team to do so while starting four quarterbacks in a season. It has been eight seasons since the last time it happened.

What are your expectations for Flacco now that he’s been named the Browns starter?
