The Bucs announced that they conducted an interview with Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher on Friday for the team’s vacant offensive coordinator job. The last Bucs interview happened virtually because Cincinnati is playing at Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Pitcher is the fourth known Bucs interview candidate this week. The team held in-person meetings with Broncos passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Klint Kubiak, Vikings receivers coach Keenan McCardell and Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter on Wednesday and Thursday. Tampa Bay fired Byron Leftwich last Thursday after the team’s 31-14 home loss to Dallas in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. It was a move that Pewter Report forecast just minutes after the loss to the Cowboys.

The Bucs offense underwhelmed this year, averaging 18.4 points per game after averaging 30 points per game the two previous seasons.

Pitcher is in his seventh season in Cincinnati with the last three serving as the Bengals quarterbacks coach and working with Joe Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in 2020. Burrow has become a Pro Bowl passer and an MVP candidate, in addition to leading the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI last season. Following a rookie season that saw it end prematurely with a knee injury, Burrow has compiled a 22-10 record as a starter the regular season over the last two years, and gotten the team into the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back seasons.

Prior to becoming Burrow’s quarterbacks coach, Pitcher was an offensive assistant in Cincinnati from 2016-18 and the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2019. His first NFL job was in the Colts’ scouting department during the 2013 season.

The Fifth Bucs Interview For Open OC Position

The next Bucs interview will be with Giants quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. That interview, which will be Tampa Bay’s fifth for the offensive coordinator role, will take place either this weekend or the early part of next week.
